CAMP SCHEDULES

Percussion Spring Camp

Those students who make the SHS Marching Percussion Ensemble will meet during the 1st full week of June, Monday – Thursday, from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. The instructional and educational goal of this camp is to prepare these groups for the upcoming competitive season through basics & fundamentals.

 

Summer Band Camp (Southaven High School Marching Band & Color Guard)

Band Camp will be held each summer at a predetermined location. The dates for full Band Camp will be two full weeks prior to the beginning of the school year. During this camp we will begin learning our competitive marching band show. Attendance is mandatory! Any student who fails to attend Summer Band Camp will automatically be placed on Alternate Status (will not have an assigned spot in the field show).

This year the camp schedule will run as follows:

ATTENDANCE POLICY

REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED!

Students and parents must realize the success of our organization depends upon 100% participation and cooperation of its members. Attendance is mandatory at ALL REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES unless otherwise notified by the director. When you are absent, no one can take your place. YOUR ABSENCE DOES AFFECT THE ENTIRE ENSEMBLE!

The only automatically accepted excuses for absences are illness (with a doctor’s note) or a death in the family.

If you have ONE UNEXCUSED ABSENCE from a rehearsal, you will not be allowed to participate in further rehearsals or performances until a parent/director conference is held. This conference may take place via telephone or e-mail.

TWO UNEXCUSED ABSENCES from rehearsals will result in immediate dismissal from the performance ensemble.

ONE UNEXCUSED ABSENCE from a PERFORMANCE will result in that student being removed from the marching band and/or concert band.

 

Parents,

You are urged not to punish your child by keeping him/her from participating in a rehearsal or performance. When you do this you are punishing more than your child. You are punishing EVERY CHILD in the band. Our students rely heavily upon one another not only in rehearsals, but especially in performance situations.

This will be viewed as an UNEXCUSED ABSENCE and the aforementioned policy will be enforced. This is to protect the organization as a "whole".

The attendance policy will be enforced from the first day of Band Camp throughout the school year. The director will view unavoidable conflicts as excused as long as written notice has been provided in advance of the absence. Please try to schedule doctor appointments, commitments, dentist, and orthodontist appointments outside of rehearsal time if possible. We realize this is not always possible, but please make every effort to do so.

The excuse of not having a ride to a performance or rehearsal WILL NOT be accepted nor excused. If you are going to be late, have a GOOD reason and call the band hall to leave a message.

UNEXCUSED TARDIES WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Excessive tardiness will result in dismissal from the marching band or performance ensemble.
